Colour, Emotion and the Rise of Expressive Interiors

Pinterest Predicts has released its annual drop of spring colour trends, drawn from the ideas people are searching, discovering and saving on Pinterest. These hues are shaping style, creativity, interiors and culture in the year ahead.

In 2026, the crossover between colour and emotion is stronger than ever. In such a fast-paced world, there is a growing desire for interiors that feel grounding and uplifting amid the chaos. For some, this means embracing Cloud Dancer - a shade that symbolises calm and quiet reflection, encouraging true relaxation while leaving space for creativity and innovation.

For others, the focus is on imaginative and expressive colours that spark emotion, build aesthetics and showcase personality. These bolder tones offer an escape and a way to express individuality through colour. Increasingly, colour is becoming a tool for resetting moods, sharpening focus and bringing fresh perspective to both our spaces and our mindset. Whether through fashion, interiors or carefully curated Pinterest board aesthetics, people are using colour as a form of everyday self-expression.

How Pinterest Predicts Colour Trends

Pinterest has now released its third annual colour forecast, highlighting five shades set to dominate fashion, beauty and interiors this spring: Persimmon, Cool Blue, Jade, Plum Noir and Wasabi. The palette is built directly from user behaviour. Pinterest’s methodology blends quantitative analysis of colour searches with cultural trend insights conducted by the Pinterest House of Creative, which tracks patterns in how people engage with colour across the platform.

Here’s our take on the key shades and how you can style them in your home.

Persimmon

Part orange, part red, Persimmon is a warm, joyful shade that radiates positivity and feel-good energy. Sitting somewhere between tangerine and tomato red, it brings a vibrant burst of sunshine to interiors.

Searches related to the Persimmon aesthetic have surged by 100%, with phrases such as “orange colour suit” and “orange colour combinations” rising sharply. The shade has also been having a wider cultural moment. Taylor Swift incorporated bold orange tones into the visuals for her album The Life of a Showgirl, symbolising vibrancy and creative energy, while Timothée Chalamet used orange as the signature colour for the promotional campaign for Marty Supreme. Much like the association of pink with Barbie, clever colour placement creates strong emotional connections and cultural identity.

In interiors, Persimmon works beautifully in statement pieces. Think bold armchairs, patterned rugs or vibrant kitchen tiling. It adds an eclectic sense of energy and creativity, bringing warmth and personality into a space without feeling overpowering.

Cool Blue

Cool Blue is an icy, frosted hue that brings a playful, ‘it-girl’ energy to interiors. This pale, glacial shade adds lightness and whimsy while still maintaining a sense of calm.

The colour has seen a significant rise in interest, with searches for “cool blue” increasing by 85% and “glacier aesthetic” climbing by 35%. It pairs particularly well with chocolate brown - another viral shade - and together they create a striking contrast that feels both modern and nostalgic.

Cool Blue is appearing everywhere, from interior design and architecture to nail trends and fashion, reflecting a broader movement towards restoration, wellness and calming spaces.

In the home, Cool Blue kitchen cabinets can create a nostalgic, 1950s-inspired look when styled with fresh flowers, ceramics and vintage touches. For a subtler approach, try incorporating the shade through accessories such as artwork, bedding, glassware or decorative objects. Against a base of neutrals, these small accents create refreshing pops of colour.

Jade

Pistachio and matcha have had their moment, and now it’s time to make space for Jade. Sitting somewhere between mint and olive, this earthy green offers a refined balance between nature and elegance.

Jade is a muted yet uplifting shade that feels both timeless and contemporary. Searches for jade accessories have risen by 135%, with overall saves increasing by 125%. The colour aligns closely with biophilic design, interiors inspired by nature, helping to create spaces that support relaxation, wellness and a deeper connection to the outdoors.

At the same time, Jade carries a modern lifestyle appeal. It sits comfortably alongside trend-led shades like matcha and pistachio, which have already gained popularity with younger audiences, particularly Gen Z.

In interiors, Jade works beautifully in kitchens and bathrooms. Its natural softness adds colour without overwhelming a space, making it a perfect choice for cabinetry, tiles or decorative accents.

Plum Noir

For those who love a dramatic interior, Plum Noir is the shade to watch. Deep, decadent and full of richness, this dark purple tone blends the intensity of burgundy with the depth of velvet brown.

Plum Noir embodies the rise of moody maximalism - an aesthetic currently dominating social media that embraces layered textures, bold colours and expressive design. Inspired by the glamour of the 1990s, the shade evokes a sense of nostalgia while still feeling modern and elevated.

Interest in plum tones has soared, with searches increasing by 220%. “Plum living room ideas” are up 60%, and saves have risen by 33%, making it one of the fastest-growing shades in Pinterest’s palette.

In the home, Plum Noir works beautifully in statement furnishings, from sculptural sofas to bold side tables. It delivers visual impact while maintaining a sophisticated, theatrical elegance. One of our favourite ways to style the shade is through Plum Noir tiling in kitchens or bathrooms. Paired with marble or stone surfaces, it creates a striking, characterful space that feels both modern and timeless.
